 Description  « Hide
In Moodle, the most important page is the "course page", which acts as a hub in a hub-and-spoke navigation strategy. The structure and user workflow with the page is controlled by a pluggable bit of code, called a course format.

The default course format is good for courses where the teacher can plan ahead. For day-to-day teaching, as is often done in primary schools, a different format is preferrable. The goal of this project is to deliver a blog-style day-to-day format as described here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XS_Moodle_design#Topics-style_course_format.2C_geared_for_a_year-long

The complexity of this project is medium-low.

This feature idea comes from the OLPC project – see http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XS_Project_Ideas#Moodle

Hi Angelo,

Are you wanting to apply for this project as part of Google Summer of Code? If so, please see:

I'm a student interested in applying for this project ideas as GSOC. Thanks for the links to pointers and description. Has more information been gathered on this project idea? I read the links to the wiki page, but it seems like there are only a few bullet point ideas. I'd like to gather more information about this idea project. Who would be the correct people or forum to post to? I know I can post a new thread/topic in the GSOC 2009 forum, but I'd like to get input from the target audience of this project idea.

Jose, good to hear you're interested in the blog-style course format project

I suggest you post in either the general developer forum http://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=55 or the course formats forum http://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=47 (though please don't post the same thing in both forums!)

If you've not done so already, you may wish to check out the existing standard and contributed course formats. Please see http://docs.moodle.org/en/Course_formats for a list.

Thanks for the links Helen. I posted in the K-12 forum and got some useful feedback. My plan is to work on a couple of mockup or demo images of what the blog-style course layout would look like so that I can get even more feedback.

Sounds good Jose, just adding a link to your K-12 schools forum discussion:

Regarding working on a mockup, have you come across our nice tool for creating mockups? Please follow the 'Add/edit UI Mockup' link in the left column of this issue.

OK - Just a comment to document that we moved MDL-18652 into CONTRIB so that we could create another tracker issue and assign the sub-tasks to Jose as he continues working on this project. I think it best that the work develop in CONTRIB and then when we are ready we can add the code to Moodle 2.0. Let me know if you want to use Moodle's CVS server. It looks like Martin is working with the student and having Jose use git. In any case, the new issue free of all the mockups is CONTRIB-1403 where the actual work for this can be continued. I am going to change the description of this to spec'ing out a design for the timeline course format and then we can resolve this issue as fixed and Jose can continue developing under CONTRIB-1403. The sub-tasks that were previously part of this issue have been re-assigned to CONTRIB-1404. Let me know if you have any questions. Peace - Anthony

Now that CONTRIB-1404 refers specifically to coming up with the blog course format proposal - we can resolve this as fixed. Jose can continue working toward the actual implementation under CONTRIB-1403. Actually I am thinking that this perhaps should be a subtask to CONTRIB-1403 since the proposal is the first part of the process. Peace - Anthony
