Description

Imagine you are in a class room and want to apply the Metaplan method (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaplan).
Usually you need cards, pens, boards etc. pp.

But in a computer room or when most students have laptops - you should be able to apply the Metaplan method computer based.

So basically you need this functionality:

Imagine a class room situation.

1) teacher starts a Metaplan board providing a theme and a description
2) students fill out "cards" and deliver them to the teacher (no students is able to see the cards of other students)
3) teacher can present cards to all students and attach them to an existing (or newly created) "category"
4) when all cards are gone teacher initiates "rating": every students can assign some "points" to the different categories - valueing the importance of the specific category
5) teacher closes the board (no more contributions or rating can be made) and presents it to all students as a result to the process.
6) the board can be exported as a picture and an XML file representing the structure theme, category, cards per category

The same procedure can be used in a long distance learning environment in real time.

I can provide a more detailed specifications if there is anybody out there willing to program this

Peter - Might you be able to explain how this would be different than using either the choice (for a single question) or feedback (for multiple questions) modules? It sounds like either of these might be able to do what you are requesting. Peace - Anthony

Anthony - the Metaplan technique is used to digg for the "secret knowledge" of the paricipants. So here is a more detailed description:

first: writing cards and delivering them to the teacher is not covered by any other module - except the database module

second: the grouping of the cards by categories - according to the results of discussions with the students cannot be done by an existing module (as far as I know)

third: the rating could be done bei one of the question modules - but the teacher would have to create a question from the categories ... and so breaking up the flow of information

fourth: the export of the final result is not supported ...

If this does not convince you (and others) I can describe the Metaplan technique in more details ...

Thank you for asking, Peter.

Peter - Thanks for an introductory explanation. I'm afraid I know nothing about the metaplan technique so the more information you can provide the better. Coming up with a clear design and being able to explain the goals of the project will be helpful. I find that case scenarios work well in describing how a teacher could use such an activity. Then you identify what information in the teacher inputs to create a metaplan and what the students do to interact with it, and then the desired results. Conceptually I am an intuitive on the Myers Briggs typologies so I look to understand the big picture first and then move to details. Gradually we can help spec this out and then see what is involved in doing it. What possible resources might you have for getting someone to work on developing the code for this? Peace - Anthony

Peter - I am resolving this as incomplete. It seems to not be an active issue any longer. Perhaps you found ways of implementing this. Feel free to comment and if we need to reopen the issue then we can. I'm trying to clean up the list of issues assigned to me. Peace - Anthony
