Correct me if I am wrong, but it does not seem that capabilities and permissions of even the most basic kind have been applied to the book module. Even if it currently works with 1.7, the lack of this feature creates a problem in that it doesn't work like other modules.
We work with children in the primary school using Moodle in many wonderful ways. We would very much appreciate, if a book could be filled with texts and pictures by the children themselves. Certainly a teacher can fill a book with children's work. But the older children (9 - 12) would love to do it themselves and many of them are capable of doing so.
Yes, we would welcome this improvement very very much!
