Formal White theme has some issues in Firefox and Safari on Mac

Description

Checked formal white theme in both Firefox and Safari on Mac and there are some issues. Clearly it could use some testing/debugging. Please see attached screendumps for examples.

Assigned to Andrea who maintains the theme.

In FF on Linux I see the same issues - I suppose some updates for 1.8 are necessary.
