Gradebook appears to have no css class on cells that have grades for late work. If there was, it would be possible to highlight late work and track deadlines missed.

Assigning to Petr, to think about it for 2.0.

Thinking about this, perhaps a separate report for lateness/participation would be more effective than trying to stuff the cells full of extra information. Many teachers separate achievement from effort and it seems like it would form a good basis for a weekly/monthly review of who needs chasing about their participation. I'm particularly keen to find a way to automatically generate letters based on gradebook data e.g. letters which will list tasks missed over the last X period, or pass grades not met.

I've changed this to major as the huge number of disappointed faces from other staff I'm training is making it clear that this is a real problem for teachers who want to use Moodle instead of a paper register.

Any sort of school is going to require this as a basic data set for teachers to report on at least annually and it is massively important for keeping tabs on students who are beginning to slack off.

I'd definitely like to add my university's vote to this one. We need to be able to see in the grade roster whether or not an assignment as been submitted late.

One suggested workaround would to be at least display the due date for an assignment at the top of the grade roster display for an assignment.

Replying to Helen's comments on MDL-19226 -

Yes, I suppose it does just apply to those assignments(or other modules) where late submissions are an option. However, there is another scenario where an offline assignment may have a deadline specified and manual entry by the tutor is the only way of knowing when it was done. It might be necessary to manually set the time submitted then, as the grading of the work may happen after the deadline.

The time difference is of interest as it is still something that is worth commenting on in a report if the student is consistently getting thigs done days early, or just in the nick of time.

In order to make this feature really useful, there are the wider issues of being able to set deadlines with late submission for more (all?) modules e.g. quizzes, and also about being able to set different deadlines for different groups, which is vital in order for this feature to be useful in a school environment. With these issues also addressed, the gradebook would be pretty much perfect IMHO.

I agree with Matt's comment from June 16 2008: a separate report would be very useful to our teachers.
