Hi Yu Zhang,
I had a moment of clarity (and panic?!) about this today. The clarity is what we should do; the panic is that you may have gone off in a different direction.
Firstly the clarity is that we should adopt the second of my two possible solutions i.e. 'Export new or updated grades only' should only apply to the xml export. The reason for this is it is the xml export that we will use to interface to our other systems and it is this route only that needs to monitor the 'new', 'regraded', unchanged' status.
If a tutor were to export to Excel/Text/OpenOffice we would not want that export to affect the 'new' setting of any grade.
My panic is that you might be going down the route of making the Excel/Text/OpenOffice exports emulate the XML export in all ways. That is not what we want.
So my suggestions is that
- you leave the export to Excel/Text/OpenOffice exactly as it is now but on the page that follows the selection of these three exports you do not include the option to 'Export new or updated grades only' - this is my preferred option;
or you mark that export as for xml only 'Export new or updated grades only (XML export only)' - which is less good but still clear.
Then it's clear that exports to Excel/Text/OpenOffice will always export all student records (and behind the scenes will not affect the 'new' settings).
I hope that is clear. Sorry I didn't see all the implications a couple of days ago.
