Description

When a piece of work has been submitted but not marked, the gradebook does not indicate this. Not very useful when trying to assess how well students have met deadlines. a CSS class for cells where work is not yet marked would be good, or a symbol other than - .

I've adjusted this to major because I've just been running training with teachers on the new gradebook and this has emerged as a big issue affecting its usefulness. It means that the gradebook cannot be used to write progress reports without lots of clicks into and out of various activities that have not yet been marked to see if work has been submitted. People were very surprised and a bit miffed at the extra effort needed as well as the loss of the at-a-glance power of the interface.

Nicholas - I've added you as watcher because of Yu moving away. Hope you don't mind

There is no general support for activity "status" tracking. There is no room for that in current database tables for grading.

This could be worked around by special grading plugins for activities that require manual grading. The obvious candidate is assignment module.

Matt, thanks for your comments and thanks to everyone who has voted for this issue.

Is it just on the grader report that you'd like an indication of submissions not yet marked? I assume the last modified(student) and status columns on the assignment submissions page are sufficient in showing which students have submitted work that has not yet been marked?

Helen: yes, those columns are fine on the assignment/workshop/whatever pages for this purpose, so it just needs to be reflected in the gradebook.

Petr/Nicolas: Will it be possible to add any needed columns before the database freeze for the 2.0 release?
