Description
Certain features of moodle provide private interaction between student and teacher. However, activity in these areas, eg. assignment submissions or journal postings, are displayed in Recent Activity.
Limiting activity that is to be common knowledge is needed to preserve teacher student confidence.
The module should observe the practice.

Good suggestion.
Personally, I like having them all on (this feature was added only recently) because I think it gives the class a sense of life and activity ... the constant mild peer pressure keeps everyone working - I think this has been going well in my classes.
An analogy might be that a student knows when another student has talked to the teacher in their private office, without knowing anything about the contents of the conversation.
However, I can totally understand why others might want to deselect certain modules and so yes, this should be an option (on the course settings page I would say).

By the way, a quick hack to fix this right now is to edit the lib.php file in any module you want to disable, and completely remove the _print_recent_activity function.
For example, assignment_print_recent_activity().
