Description
A colleague reported that discussion posts were disappearing from a news forum that had been replied to. To others, the posts were visible all the time. He later reported that he thinks he has understood the behaviour. If he gets timed out, then when he logs back in he doesn't see the new messages. If he explicitly logs out and in again he can see them.
