Description

Hello,

last week I did an update of my Moodle 1.8.2+ (version 2007021520 from 2007-07-10) to 1.8.4+ (version: 2007021541 from 2008-02-01). The update went fine without any problems or error messages.

But today I noticed that there is a problem with sending messages. Only as administrator I can send messages (with editor or text box).
As teacher or as student there is no editor or text box available. It seems that Moodle tries to load something, but nothing appears. Apache does not show any error in its log.

I will switch to developer mode in Moodle at late afternoon to maybe get any detailed error message.

As small workaround I replaced the message-version of my 1.8.4+ with my old message-version from 1.8.2+, and with this it works fine as ever.

Regards, Daniel

What language did you use? Could you try another one?

I am using German as default language. I switched my own language to English, but no change.

Hello,

after upgrading to final Moodle 1.9, this weird bug is not gone in our production system. I have to mention that this system is coming from Moodle 1.5.3 -> 1.6 -> 1.6.1 -> 1.8.2 -> 1.8.4 -> 1.9 final.

A new system based on the source of our production system (including theme and other additions) does not show this message bug. So I think it's some data inside the database from an old Moodle-version, that produces this bug. There is no error message if debug mode is on (inside of Moodle).

Can someone help me to solve this problem?

Regards, Daniel

Hello,

I spent some time in comparing the working messaging system from my 1.8.2+ installation with 1.8.4 and 1.9 versions of the messaging system.

Besides some minor changes, a new capability was used in messaging: moodle/site:sendmessage
My default users had not for some (unknown) reason that capability. After resetting trainer and student roles back to default, all works fine now.

Regards, Daniel
