Description

If i try to restore a frontpage course on a clean, new and empty moodle installation, the system let me not restore the frontpage course. It rains error warning with the end comment "Something must be wrong". Thats true. I copy the error warnings in the attachent, i rename some details like site name and domain and server path. I try it on three different new moodle installations! The problem only exist if i say, restore and overwrite the current course, if i say, restore in a new course, it will work, but what will i with a frontpage course when he is not on the frontpage?

copy/pasted from http://moodle.org/mod/forum/post.php?reply=412618 - Six big moodle installation with more than 30.000 user, their moodle admins upgrade to 1.9 have the problem, they cannot restore the frontpage course.

oh, sorry - frontpage restore is not meant to be used during any upgrade!

Anything outside of normal courses should be backed-up/restored using full sql db dump. It is technically not possible to do an accurate restore from our frontapge backup file anyway - simply there is so much data that is not there.

The purpose of the frontapge restore should imo be:

  • restore the activities/resources on the frontpage to previous state
  • import frontpage activities/resource from other site

It should not deal with:

  • site users
  • messaging
  • blogs
