Cannot restore course that contains groups

Description

I created a backup of a course, originally created in v. 1.8.4 and then ported to 1.9. When I attempted to restore the course, it stalled on the groups/grouping step. When I removed the groups from the course and created a new backup, it reinstalled (in a new course) without any problem.

Hmm.. I can't reproduce this issue on the latest 1.9.1+ code (build as of 20080611). I tried to backup the course on 1.5.4+ then restore on 1.9.1+, but the GROUPS works. Attached is the backup course file that I used. Maybe it's the 1.8.4 backup code that had some problems?

You may be right Wen, as I've reproduced this problem with a 1.8 course backup which failed to restore to the latest 1.9.1+. (Backup file sent to Petr.)

The 1.8 course backup mentioned in my previous comment came from a Moodle version 2007021520 site.

Just to note that a 1.8.4 course backup containing groups, from a Moodle version 2007021540 site, restored successfully!

hmm, the problem is that there is a group membership of user that does not exist in the backup file

should be fixed in cvs,
we do need the cleanup scripts for group membership table - I hope we can get to that at least in 2.0

1.8 course backup from Moodle version 2007021520 site now restores fine.

Unfortunately, it seems, that the bug was not fixed in v1.9.x branch.
I imported a course backup from Moodle v1.9.9 to Moodle v1.9.13 and the bug still appears:

Could not restore groups!

This bug should be reopened...
