Ability to set opening and closing dates on forums

Description

Our user asks: Is there any way to set an opening and closing date for a discussion forum like you can for a quiz?

I've just been asked for this by someone at the OU. Seems like a reasonable feature request to me. I would be interested to have Martin's take on it. We may get around to implementing it here, if not-one else does, but it has not been assigned a priority by us yet, so don't hold your breath.

I'm adding this to usability as I think most activities should have start and end dates. The additional option of allowing the forums to be viewable after the end date would be good. Peace - Anthony

MDL-999 and MDL-12944 both request the ability to close posting to forums based on dates.

Due dates could also be available to the calendar and the upcoming events block.

Would it not be more consistent if every activity and every resource has a start date / time and end date / time, including the forum. That way they can be locked / unlocked at your hearts content?

I believe that Conditional Activities in 2.0 will add this feature and I believe it will not be module dependent so it will probably be available for all modules. See http://docs.moodle.org/en/Development:Conditional_activities#Available_conditions for the work on this.

I agree that this has been accomplished with conditional activities in Moodle 2.0. I think it would be OK to resolve this as fixed. Peace - Anthony
