Description

It would be great to have some way to allow teachers to delete multiple resources at once, instead of one-by-one for now (see screenshot)

I agree, as we have had situations where a teacher or an admin has needed to remove multiple resources from a course page.

Perhaps add a 'delete multiple resources ' function. Possibly a screen that pops up to list resources with a series of checkboxes next to each resource that you tick to choose the resources you want to delete.

Change the priority from minor to major (if I may), after I think about it again... This potentially could be a BIG improvement for usability (just my 2 cents).

Hi, I've added a possible mockup about how the "grouped" (or "bulk") actions could be added to the course interface. Feel free to comment about it.

It's a "traditional" mockup, with page refresh and so on but, obviously it could be achieved also in an AJAX style.

I'm assigning this to Martin, for his consideration, with my +1 for the idea but suggesting to address it for Moodle 2.0, because under 1.9 perhaps we haven't all the needed internals ready to support those operations.

Ciao

Just found one bug in the mockup generator, hehe. If the name of the mockup contains one quote, name is cut after edition of the mockup. Ciao

Hi Eloy, I like the mockup you have. Good job!
I would suggest to also add "Rename" capability with this bulk action if possible. Also, when you have AJAX enabled, would it still function the same way? Would it be possible to also add "Move to another section (week/topic)" with the "bulk" action? Just my 2 cents..

Rename as a bulk action? I don't get the point about that.

About the AJAX thing... well spotted... I think everything could be the same... but activities will lose their "checked" status if moved to another section (bulk only works in activities in the same section).

About adding "move to another section" as a bulk action, it can be, yes (I suppose). Note I'm not an expert in these sort of things, just a "mockup-generator". ut I think it would be great to have all the expected behaviours well defined before anybody else start this sort of task. Combinations are a lot!

Hi Eloy, yes rename as a bulk action would be a bit tricky, but I think it would be helpful for the user. One of the use case would be you have a series of "resources" that either has empty names (see screenshot) or, names in a way like "Resource 000x - Spring 2009", etc. For the first case, the user might just want to give all the resources a generic name (e.g. Resource 000x). In the later case, a instructor might want to bulk rename all the resources based on certain criteria (e.g. to change all the Spring 2009 to Fall 2010, etc.). This can be a bit tricky to implement, but personally I do see the value for this (from usability perspective). Here are some related links for such functionality in Windows XP or Adobe Photoshop:

Windows XP:
http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/renamers/ht/renamexp.htm

Photoshop:
http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/renamers/ht/apsrename.htm

and then of course there is this freeware: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php (the GUI probably is too complicated for Moodle).

Just my $0.02.
