suddenly started timing out sometime late last week, no idea why, it doesn't seem to be tied to any code change

grrr, it seems like the timeline went:

  • box.net was having an intermittent timeout
  • I changed the code to try and detect it and broke it
  • box.net resolved its problem
  • my plugin was still brokey
