Description

Here are a couple of suggestions for User Administration:

+ Be able to filter for "Never" in last access, etc.
+ Be able to change the columns shown in the user accounts list, such as being able to add columns (like one would when viewing files in Details view in Windows)
+ Be able to filter for those not assigned to any role in Moodle
+ Be able to filter for duplicate fields (such as users with the same last name) to help find duplicate users

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle - Looking at your request made me realize that when are using a filter with columns such as first access or other fields that are not listed, it would be much more meaningful if you could see the columns that were being filtered on in addition to being able to select nevers or at least include 0 as being before a particular date so that you could get practical nevers. I'm going to mark this as being related to a similar issue I raised when filtering for bulk user actions. Peace - Anthony

The desire to obtain Never results when searching the logs would be helpful to admins especially those allowing users to register by email.

Kyle - Generally speaking, let's try to submit one request per issue. This issue actually has several requests and I think in the future it is better to keep them separate. I will number the requests here to facilitate referencing them.

#1 - Be able to filter for "Never" in last access, etc.
#2 - Be able to change the columns shown in the user accounts list, such as being able to add columns (like one would when viewing files in Details view in Windows)
#3 - Be able to filter for those not assigned to any role in Moodle
#4 - Be able to filter for duplicate fields (such as users with the same last name) to help find duplicate users

So #1 will be resolved by MDL-15502 for which there is a functional patch
#2 - I do not see much utility for and would recommend not to fix it. If a particular site needs or does not need a particular column they can modify the page easily enough to show the information that they need. As for getting details, by editing the user, the admin has access to all of the field. You may have had some other uses in mind so feel free to advocate for them.
#3 - Could you provide an example of when this would be helpful to you? Obviously you would want to exclude the authenticated user role. Would the goal actually be to show a list of all the "teachers" all the "students"? Etc. I think Tim was working on some improved reporting for role related stuff. I'll have to go and find out where that is.
#4 - I could imagine having a drop down option under advanced for setting up the filter where instead of contains you have an option for is duplicate. Interesting suggestion. What situation have you run into that would make that useful for the GTU. Do you have duplicate users?

Peace - Anthony

#3 - The way we put users in Moodle is through a bulk upload from our student registration system. Allowing me to see if no role has been assigned would identify those users who are in the system but have never enrolled for a course (or been assigned as an instructor or TA).
#4 - I've noticed that we do get duplicate users sometimes, especially if e-mail addresses have changed, as well as the username convention (we've changed from lastname-first to first-lastname).
Blessings,
Kyle

Kyle - As these suggestions are considered, you may want to ask (if it is not already installed) to have the phpmyadmin code installed which would allow you to do some queries to determine duplicates and also get a list of folks without a specific role. If you have it installed, let's have lunch sometime and work out the sql needed to get what you need. Peace - Anthony
