Description

Provide the ability for a teacher to create a "progress report" (text) for a student that can be viewed by the student, the parent, and the student's adviser(mentor). All "progress reports" from all of the student's courses should be visible in one place (on profile page as notes currently are).

The notes feature shows notes across all courses on the student's profile but only the course teacher can view the notes.
Currently, a mentor role can be created giving mentors the ability to view activity reports and grades for their mentees on the student's profile but not notes. A separate "progress report" on the profile would retain the teacher's ability to write notes that only the teacher can see but provide a way for the teacher to write a report that the student/parent/mentor can see all in one place across all courses.

Also, include the capability for the administrator to bulk print these "progress reports" for all students and for student/mentor to print "progress reports" from the student's profile page.

It would also be nice to force them to "sign" it by checking the form so you know they have viewed it - much like a read receipt on outlook. It's one more level of participation in the grading process. We all know that no matter how great the tools and the training, unless you require students/parents to use those tools (grading in this case) then they often don't use them.

How long would the progress reports remain on the student profile? Could they be deleted after being viewed by parent, student and adviser? I''m not sure of the value to the student of having a running record of negative feedback. The good ones could certainly remain.

HI Joan,

Thanks for commenting! I think the time for the progress reports to remain would be up the the teacher - usually 1-2 weeks makes sense. I think it would be nice to keep them once viewed by the parent as proof that they saw it or that even if they didn't see it because they are supposed to view it. I see your point about the negative ones and and I agree it's better to focus on the positive. At the same time, my teachers would probably like the option to keep them until the end of the semester as a history of the on-going communication. And hopefully they show progress over time because of this feature and that growth at the end should be very motivational compared to any false starts one can hope. Any change you can program this or are you wanting it as a feature yourself? Thanks again for your interest in what my teachers want from me.

This would be great. I'd like to be able to choose to create the report either from Moodle gradebook or by uploading (ideally a pdf produced by our school reporting system). Ideally the files would be automatically allocate to the student in the same way as bulk uploading profile pictures (zip containing the files, each named with the appropriate usernumber). I'd want the report to remain to provide a permanent record (this could be an option just like the duration of assignments).
