Description

OpenClipArt.org is a great portal containing a lot useful contents for course designers.
It would be useful to have direct openclipart repo plugins allowing you:

  • search commons
  • import media into course local files
  • auto meta-info support (licence, source URL etc.)

See: http://http://openclipart.org/

i do not think so BUT...
i use it with the help of google image search
(since the openclipart db is free to use...)

for example,
if i am searching for a "fruit" i put the right search phrase in the right parameter of google's image search url (see the following line)
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&safe=off&domains=openclipart.org&sitesearch=openclipart.org&um=1&q=fruit&btnG=Search+Images
and get the images. i instruct the students to right click and save it or right click and link to it.
it would be nice to have it integrated into moodle's file dialog (somehow)

maybe there are more clues for an API if you look into
some code samples : http://openclipart.org/wiki/Tools
and : http://code.google.com/p/clipartbrowser/

Since there is no API we can't provide a special interface to it, BUT if you download the clipart into a server directory then you could easily set up a repository plugin using this: MDL-18520

great idea

btw,
for version 194 that we are currently using i set the local fs file access of openclipart to read only
and linked it (on the os fs level) into all courses data folders so all user can use it. (read only)
works fine.

lets close it.
