I do not like this feature, instead I have moved the image embedding code to fileter_urltolink and renamed the plugin because it seems more appropriate place.
1/ this automatic embedding is used only in the same text formats as automatic links from URL
2/ this actually break valid links to images - very often ppl link huge images for download, this thing was embedding them into the page which was hard to prevent before

Hello, the image embedding was moved to the urltolink filter where you can select in which text formats are the image links replaced. This is primarily intended for plain text formats, ppl using html editors are supposed to embed the images themselves.

Thanks for the report, closing as will not fix in order to prevent confusion from the issue title.
