See this forum discussion: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=99400 including my description of the feature request. It seems to me that the work by Dean Stringer may have already completed much of the foundation for this feature.

Something within the MOODLE framework so that users can export forum discussions on-the-fly. Example:

1. user navigates to forum
2. user reads forum, wants to archive for off-line reading later
3. user clicks some sort of "export" link that then prompts user to download formatted export file

This looks a great feature for blogs that groups can comment on and then keep for themselves later. I give students a grade for x no of blog postings, but have a problem in (to my knowledge) blogs not being course-specific and not able to be commmented on. A blog forum would solve all of this and give students their own record of postings.

Travis, thanks for your new feature suggestion. The new portfolios feature in Moodle 2.0 enables forum discussions to be exported, so I'm resolving this issue as fixed.
