Pre-Schedule Multiple Messages in Moodle Messaging

Created: 29/Jun/09 11:16 PM   Updated: 01/Jul/09 04:56 AM
Component/s: Conditional activities, Messages
Affects Version/s: 2.0
Fix Version/s: None

Participants: Anthony Borrow, Kyle Schiefelbein and Sam Marshall
Security Level: None
Affected Branches: MOODLE_20_STABLE

 Description  « Hide
Would it be possible to have some way of scheduling outgoing messages in Moodle Messaging? For example, if an instructor wants a message to be sent to all students at the beginning of each week, the instructor could pre-write the messages in Messaging, and then have each message scheduled as appropriate. Anthony suggested that this could be somehow tied to the Conditional Activities feature in 2.0.

I don't see a connection to conditional activities, sorry.

We do have this feature in our Newsfeed block (which I think is available in contrib) - you can schedule future messages in this block. However our newsfeeds do not send email [they do offer Atom and RSS feeds, but otherwise just appear in the block].

Does it work if you just use the normal news forum, force subscribe, and enable the 'timed messages' feature (it's a config option)? I don't know how that interacts with email but it ought to work. We don't use that feature.

Sam - I was wondering if we might be able to setup automated messages from a teacher based on conditions. I am not sure what all is being done with messaging but I envision it being helpful for a teacher to be able to send out a weekly reminder to the class about a recurring activity, remind a student to submit an assignment if it is within a certain time of the due date, etc. I have a vague recollection about events but not sure how this functionality may plugin. Peace - Anthony
