Description

JavaScript-based chat was effectively impossible to use. The frames made it difficult for users to form a mental model of the page. The new messages, brought in by JavaScript page refreshes, weren't visible to JAWS and thus weren't read.

Why it matters

Screen reader users cannot participate in the conversation.

Possible solution

More clearly differentiate the two paths into chat, e.g.:

  • "Enter chat with JavaScript and frames (difficult for users of assistive technology)."
  • "Enter chat with no JavaScript and no frames (more accessible)."

Hi, helen, Randall Hansen's review is based on chat module in moodle 1.9, I created a new interface in 2.0, is it possible to let him review the new one?

Unfortunately Randall is not available to test the chat module in 2.0, however I'm going to assume that it resolves this issue. If not, please comment asking for the issue to be reopened.
