Description

We are giving our students the "online text" assignment which they need to submit a code as an answer.
The code has Indentation and it's very important to keep it that way, so the teacher can edit the submission and correct the code normally.
But as the students save their submission the Indentation is gone and the order is ruin.

This issue happens also in the forums and other html text fomorats.

I'm adding 3 pics which describe the problem
Hope to find effective answer.

thanks in advance
Miki

yes, unfortunately this is a known problem in current html editor, the new editor (tinymce) in 2.0 will not have this problem.
I am afraid there is not simple solution for 1.9.x

Hi Miki,

I have EXACTLY the same bug when using Syntax Highlighting with GeSHi (Generic Syntax Highlighting). I also expierence the problem when dealing with source code (I'm a C# and .NET course teacher).

@ Petr's statement - I'am afraid there is not simple solution for 1.9.x

He's completely right. This is no bug of the GeSHi-Filter but rather of the TextArea Text/HTML editor that comes along with moodle. I use moodle 1.9.4 and I can recommend the GeSHi for your course too. It installs in seconds. Get the latest here on moodle.org ! It seems to work with TinyCME without indention problems -> notice I haven't proved that myself !) I hope TextArea it will be removed or fixed or replaced with TinyCME or with something that works since the Text Editor is the key to moodle. See me angry posts about this topic in the forums. I seems we have no chance but to wait until 2.0. A "hassle free" integration is NOT provided. Only go for it if you have coding experience and a lot of time

This bug seems to have been tracked down...at least a bit further. That's all I can tell for now.

Regards,
Johannes

I'd like to add, using "No HTML" in a wiki is only a partial solution. Code indentation is respected if the tag <pre> is used, and the wiki syntax is clear enough, but there's no way to avoid brackets turning into links. According to the ErfurtWiki website, a <code> tag should be enough, but that's not the case.
