Description

I was trying to insert some non-breaking spaces. First of all, the editor doesn't recognize lots of spaces typed as non-breaking spaces. So I edited the html and added spaces. I viewed it in WYSIWYG view, it looked ok, saved it, and it looked ok in regular view. Then when I went to edit the page again, the non-breaking spaces were completely gone.

I need more precisions on this one.

This is marked as a bug for 2.0, which uses TinyMCE and it works as expected in this setup.

Somehow, this is one of two problems (or maybe both) - the editor doesn't seem to include a real " " when clicking on the "non-breaking space" button .. and Moodle seems to have a filter that removes many spaces, using only one instead.

This is coming up as an issue for our faculty and students as well, due to the new APA style guidelines, which apparently call for 2 spaces between sentences (ugg, reverting back to the pre-80's...) - and apparently, at least in 1.9.5 - if you put in 2 spaces between sentences, Moodle will overwrite it with 1 space.

Mathieu, the Affects Version value is incorrect. It affects 1.9 and earlier.

I'm tidying up the multitude of HTML editor white-space issues.

This issue is related to the HTML editor distributed with Moodle 1.9 and previous versions, which is a component created by other developers and used in Moodle.

The resolution of this issue was to use the TinyMCE editor, which is used with Moodle 2.0 and later versions. You can use this editor in 1.9 and earlier versions, if you are willing to replace it, but we do not intend to do so as part of the core Moodle distribution.

Also, a number of workarounds have been proposed in the linked duplicate issues.
