Description

I've got a user whose email account is no loger valid (he seems to have graduated and lost his college account). He is subscribed to a number of forums and every message sent to him generates a message to me that his account doesn't exist anymore.Just as there is a prompt user to change password checkbox, it would be nice if there was a checkbox that could remind a user to change their email address upon login.

Just delete the email address and they will be notified on next login

Doesn't work. I get the message that it is an invalid email address and it doesn't save my change.

Any progress on this? Unless I block their email entirely, I keep getting notices from their isp sent back to me every time the email doesn't go through. I would prefer to do as Martin suggested but Moodle doesn't allow me to do that.

Bump! I sent out an email to all my site registrants yesterday (over 1300) and got back 35 rejected emails, due to full mailboxes, non-existing accounts etc. I really need a way to be able to tell these people if they happen to log in that they need to change their email at that point.

Half or more of the emails I am receiving these days in my admin mailbox are bouncing forum posts to email addresses that no longer work for forum participants. Some of these participants are logging in regularly but I have no way to communicate with them to tell them to change their email addresses to something that works. I do not use instant messaging in my Moodle so what am I supposed to do? Put a forum post saying Hey so-and-so change your email address and spam all my other users. This is really a critical feature that is much-needed.

changing to feature request - not really a bug.

Any update on this one? +1 for this and I think this is critical too. I believe the issue still exist in 1.9 and 2.0 as well. There should be a mechanism that once some users' email accounts become invalid (and are still subscribing so some forums, etc.), there should be a way to notify the teacher or the sys admin so that they could have some actions. Thoughts or comments on this?

Is there a serious bug with this email change pending feature? We have LDAP users who dont have email address. When user try to enter a valid email and hit the Save-button it does not take to any page or users dont have any messages from moodle. The email address field only says "Change pending..." Only administrator can change their email but thats not very handy.
Our Moodle version is 1.9.9+. Should this task be created again with more priority and attention?
