It would be nice if there were submit buttons at the top of resource and other pages. When adding a lot of stuff scrolling down can be quite time consuming.

The highly usable movable type interface allows the user to specify where they want their submit button to be - at the top or at the bottom - but I think that one at each end would not go amiss.

Tim

Could you please tell us where the option to specify the position of the submit bottom is? I could not find it.

David Horat added a comment - 30/Jun/08 06:13 AM
It means the "Movable Type" interface. This option is not in Moodle right now, but it could be a good idea to have it in the future.

Sorry, yes, I should have put that in capitals, Movable Type.

The easiest way would be just to duplicate the submit buttons top and bottom.

David and Laia - It is important that issues like this be discussed on the forums. I can see some utility but also potential confusion by having multiple submit buttons. What I would find helpful is setting up a set of criteria to be used when designing a page in Moodle such that we could say within Moodle the turn editing on button is located in this location, submit button(s) are located here, etc. Ultimately it is consistency that will make Moodle more easily usable. From the work that Laia has done so far, what are the guildelines/criteria she has found that will help make Moodle more usable? Peace - Anthony

The criteria is described at http://docs.moodle.org/en/Student_projects/Usability_issues/T5. I have created a Doodle page in order to vote the best solution.

Thanks Laia. It is a shame we can't somehow set it up so that you could use a choice within Moodle.org. As much as possible I like to use Moodle for Moodle stuff but I appreciate your initiative in providing a place that users can quickly give you feedback. Peace - Anthony

Laia - Another thought that came to mind, in part from working with the tracker and email is that it is common to be able to use CTRL-Enter to submit. I think such a key stroke would be a nice addition to Moodle but I'm not sure if it is used elsewhere within Moodle. Could you investigate that and perhaps through it out as an idea on the forums. The CTRL-Enter should work for Submit, Update, Send in Ratings, etc. I don't know if there are pages that might have multiple submits where it may not be obvious what the CTRL-Enter ought to do, if there are I would like to see a list of them. Peace - Anthony

I have posted on the Moodle forum http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=101188 a question about this issue.

I have studied possible applications of the shortcut CTRL-Enter in http://docs.moodle.org/en/Student_projects/Usability_issues/T5#Submit_button_at_top.

There I classify submit buttons in: 1.1 Turn editing on, 1.2 Save changes, 1.3 Update profile, 1.4 Upload user, 1.5 Add new discussion topic, 1.6 Update this quiz/forum/wiki, 1.7 Continue, 1.8 More than a submit button. Furthermore, I also looked for shortcuts applied elsewhere within Moodle.

A shortcut sounds nice too. Yes please.

But people forget them (especially non-standard ones) so I think an Enter/submit button at the top would not go amiss even if the shortcut key existed.
