Description

My ISP/Host has a limit on the number of emails that can be sent in a time period. I've checked other ISPs and they have similar rules.

X number of emails per Y time period. (50 / hour)

Some have a double rule, such as:

5 emails/10 seconds and not more than 100 / hour.

If you exceed the limits the email ends up in the bit bucket.

We need a way to adjust the speed and timing of the mailing of all emails out of the system. (i.e. to avoid multiple forums having emails colliding for output in the same time frame)

This is important for people subscribed to forum postings.

If we can't gate the emails so they go out, then we need a way to permanently/selectively (by forum) turn on/off the emails subscriptions. We can't rely on the users to turn it off by themselves because they may think they NEED to have it ON as it's presented as an option on the bottom of every forum post page.

Our Site cannot send any emails from the forums NOW because we have too many postings going out and it's exceeding the limits of our ISPs... So this is a HIGH priority for us!

Assigning to me temporarily because Vy-Shane no longer works for Moodle HQ.

There is another request for this in the forums:

Note the poster has posted a link to some code that might be used to solve this problem.

Hi. Can someone provide a temporary solution to this problem even if it involves hacking some code? I'm reaching my hosting limit and the email system will stall

(so strange this issue hasn't been addressed yet.. .I wish I knew how to do it).

I need this feature desperately, or at least a workaround published in moodle docs, please!

Got the same problem, and after I posted about it at the forums (http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=186650), Hostgator personnel referred me to this page.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way programmers here can receive donations of some sort? That could speed up development, motivating them, and would be an affordable solution for many of us that have an income (at least partially) thanks to Moodle.

Cheers.
