Description

If a teacher creates a URL field in a database, this field is prefaced by the name of the field, and then URL:.

So if I name the field Site then it prints Site: URL: which is nonsensical. Since this field is specifically for a URL, it would be better if either the teacher designated name only were displayed, or simply the term URL, preferrably the former.

Moreover, the fact that there is this double naming means that the URL entry box is not aligned with the other fields. This looks totally unprofessional.

This I should add only occurs when you don't use a forced name for the link.

Well, yes because there are TWO fields associated with a URL, the url and the name of the link. They have to be labelled somehow.

I understand that, but it would make more sense to just call them URL and perhaps Link Text and do away with displaying the field name altogether. I want to create a database to store links, accompanied by a description of the link and a chapter number in the textbook with which it is associated (two additional fields). The ONLY label that would make sense for the URL and the text for the link to the URL are simple URL and Link Text. Adding something before it is redundant or irrelevant. You might not even need URL at all, since it automatically fills in http it is obviously a field for a URL.

Just an idea-Why not make the form for entering data a configurable template?

From Martin Dougiamas (martin at moodle.com) Tuesday, 6 June 2006, 02:20 PM:

You can use a forced name, but leave the link name blank I think (from memory) does that help?

If I recall correctly, I tried that, and it does work, except the colon that is supposed to come after the field name still is displayed. Maybe don't display the colon if the field name is blank?
