 Description  « Hide
The help for Course Enrollable says "Whether this course is enrollable or not", which is not really help at all. I'm not entirely sure what this setting is for myself!

Hi Howard,

Please let me know whether the following text explains the course enrollable setting:

This setting determines whether students are able to self-enrol on a course or whether they obtain the message "This course is not enrollable at the moment."

If course enrollable is set to No or is restricted to a certain date range, then although students cannot self-enrol, users may still be assigned the role of student via the Assign roles link in the course administration block.

Mmmm.... if the only thing it stops is self-enrolment (does this just mean enrolment using an enrolment key), then perhaps it should be very explicit that that is the case. I further assume that it has no affect at all on external enrolment plugins? Using the term 'self-enrol' may be just replacing one buzzword with another (I'm not clear what it means).

Thnanks Helen!

Howard, thanks for your comments.

By self-enrol I meant "enrol themselves" i.e. enrol using the default interactive enrolment plugin for the course (internal enrolment, Paypal etc.).

AFAIK you're correct in assuming it has no effect on external enrolment plugins. However, I'm no expert on enrolment plugins

How about the following text:

This setting determines whether students are able to enrol themselves using the default interactive enrolment plugin for the course, or whether they obtain the message "This course is not enrollable at the moment."

This setting has no effect on non-interactive enrolment plugins. Also, users can always be assigned the role of student via the Assign roles link in the course administration block.

would just add a couple of "e.g.s" . E.g., ahem, "using the default interactive enrolment plugin (e.g., Enrolment key, Paypal)" and "This setting has no effect on non-interactive enrolment plugins (e.g., database enrollment, LDAP enrollment)"
