[#MDL-778] do not require admin to fill in all fields when adding students - Moodle Tracker

Description

When adding students to the course site, the admin shouldn't have to fill in all of the fields in the user profile. Only username and password are absolutely necessary. The user can then update his/her profile him/herself.

I agree with you. I will change this if Martin thinks it is a good idea. I have already taken out the requirement that the admin must enter a description for the user because that is clearly ridiculous.

This issue is related to the MDL-9908 and I'm looking to be part of the effort to change Moodle code to only have username and password as required, but also to provide some sort of interface to be able to configure whether a user profile field is required.

This requirement functionality is already a part of custom fields and seems strange that it isn't available for standard profile fields.

Can someone get me in touch with whoever I need to to get this moving as it seems there are other institutions besides mine that need this as well.
