Random quiz questions selects questions that has been deleted (or supposed to be hidden)

Description

The situation is this:

You have a pool of questions. You place a random question from this pool as well as other questions on a quiz. A student takes the quiz. You then decide to delete one question from the pool. The quiz may still choose the question you deleted because at this point, Moodle does not delete questions, but flags them as hidden. This is a bug in Moodle 1.5+ but we just tested this on 1.8 beta and it is still a problem in 1.8

I think I have checked in the correct fix, but I don't have an installation of Moodle 1.5 I can test this on. Please can you upgrade to 1.5.4+ and confirm I have not broken anything. Thanks, Tim.

If you look at the linked bug MDL-8177, that shows that the fix was checked in to 1.5.4+ too.

we faced this bug with a quiz of 350 students yesterday. it's very critical for us to get a fix. We're using 1.6.4
MDL-8177 says it is fixed for 1.6.5
Any idea when 1.6.5 will be released? or how to fix it immediately in our version?

Hi Tim,

We installed the latest 1.6.5 and are testing it.

Scenario: You have a pool of questions. You place a random question from this pool as well as other questions on a quiz. A student takes the quiz. You then decide to delete one question from the pool.

Result:
1. The quiz does NOT choose the question you deleted (OK)
2. The Problem is with the "ADD XX Random Questions", which still display a total of 8 questions in my category, although 5 out of 8 are questions "deleted". If I choose "ADD 5 RANDOM QUESTIONS", the quiz will show in Preview "The number of random questions required is more than are still available in the category!" for the 5 missing random questions.

Solution:

To make "ADD XX RANDOM QUESTIONS" show in the drop-down menu only the VALID undeleted questions only.

Currently, the drop-down menu shows the TOTAL number of questions (deleted and not deleted) in the category
