Tracker usability: two search fields very close to each other

Description

The new design of all moodle.org sites introduced "Search moodle.org" input field in the right top corner of the page. In the tracker, this is next to the tracker "Quick Search" input field. This is confusing and time consuming - user has to choose the right field to use.

Proposal: either move tracker field or hide moodle.org field.

David, thanks for your report. Reassigning to Martin for consideration.

I'd like the search moodle.org box to contain the word 'Google' like on http://mahara.org/ I'm not sure if it would solve this issue though.

Just as a side note... here things are worse, because I've three search boxes together:

1) The browser one.
2) The moodle.org general one
3) The tracker one

Just some minutes ago I've searched for "MDL-18482" in 2) by mistake, then back, then in 1) by mistake (and thought... what the hell!), then back and finally in 3). :-D 100% real!

In any case, the three showed the correct result (the page in the tracker), so who cares!

Just wanted to share this moment of stupidity! :-D

Ciao

I think the Moodle.org one should stay to be consistent.

We can move the tracker one but where to? I can't see a good space.

I'd like to rename the tracker text ("Quick search" to "Search tracker" and "Home" to "Tracker Home") but haven't worked out how to hack that in Jira yet.

I really am not keen on writing "Google" on every single Moodle.org page, Helen

Note this is worst with Jira 4, cause the boxes have switched the order, hence I'm searching in Google all the time, and that's really bad for a hater like me, lol.

So I'd propose, as a less worse solution, to position them like they used to be under old tracker or perhaps, to take ride/hide the google's one.

Ciao

I can understand the consistent look and feel of all moodle.org sites is good. However, the new tracker does not look like the other moodle.org sites anyway. Both this and the linked MDLSITE-1145 are important usability issues IMO. When in the tracker, I expect the tracker tools being highlighted and easy to work with. At the moment, the injected moodle.org menu bar with the pull-down menus and the google search box just occupies the most important navigation place at the page and interferes with the JIRA navigation elements.
