19 - Chemical Paint Remover & Air Con' Refrigerant

Virtually all substances used in motor vehicle work are potentially harmful.  Avoid skin contact with the following substances:

Fuel (petrol or diesel), lubricants, grease, oil, anti freeze, hydraulic fluids, solvents, sealers, jointing mastic, chemical paint strippers, hardeners, polyester fillers and paint.

Always change oil saturated clothes and never keep oily rags in your pocket as this can lead to inflammation of the skin.
Never clean your hands with petrol, diesel, paraffin, white spirit, thinners etc, as these liquids will remove the natural oils from your skin, which will lead to dermatitis (inflammation of the skin).

Barrier cream applied to hands before you start work will not only protect your skin from drying out and cracking, but will also make cleaning your hands easier.

When handling these substances, always wear gloves that will give you adequate protection and a visor. A visor is preferable to goggles as a visor will shield your face as well as your eyes.
Chemical paint remover dissolves disposable rubber gloves and goggles do not stop your face being splashed with the corrosive irritant liquid.
Although chemical paint remover and air conditioning refrigerant are not flammable, both become highly toxic when heated, so do not smoke near them when they are being used.

Do not wash stripping utensils or brushes in hot water, as this provides sufficient heat to produce poisonous vapours.
Both substances (chemical paint remover and air conditioning refrigerant) can cause serious chemical burns so do not handle or use these substances unless you wear adequate protection.
