Based on research done by the Moodle Product Experience team there is an identified need to improve the notifications and their delivery in Moodle LMS.

Where some of the key themes of this research were:

• For educators to understand student progress, identifying at-risk students and ensuring student success. This a challenge, and especially difficult with online learning.
• Students need more support to stay engaged and not fall behind.
• Tell me what's important to me & Meet me where I am

With the overarching aim of: 

"Delivering the right information to the right person at the right time"

From this the following broad areas of improvement work were identified:

• Add additional notifications for events and tasks in Moodle LMS
• Improve the way notifications are viewed and actioned in Moodle LMS
• Improve the way users can manage their notification preferences
