When a teacher tries to export students' grades from gradebook, the resulting xls-file is corrupted. This doesn't happen when there are only some students enrolled to the course, but when there are many students (e.g. 80+) the file gets corrupted and Excel cannot open the file without data loss.

AFAIK this bug has been fixed in Moodle's later 1.8 and 1.9dev versions, but I guess nobody has taken a look at the problem with e.g. Moodle 1.6, which at least our University and many other universites are still using. I tried to approach this problem by posting a comment to http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-9911 but as it is closed, my comment didn't get anyone's attention there. Thus, I decided to submit this bug as a new bug report in order to ask whether the resolution in MLD-9911 can be applied to Moodle 1.6 safely or not.

I have tried applying the MLD-9911 patch to our test setup (Moodle 1.6) and it seems to work just fine, but before I apply it to our production site I'd like to hear from you developers if the Workbook.php patch (MDL-9911) can be applied to Moodle 1.6 safely or not.

PS: what is the correct method to ask a case to be reopened? I posted a comment on the above mentioned MDL-9911 last month but I never got an answer from anyone.
