      Description

      It does not seem possible to prevent students from seeing feedback and grades for an assignment, short of hiding the assignment altogether.

      Sometimes it is useful to hide grades and feedback from students, at least for a limited period, because:

      (1) the marks may be provisional (e.g., subject to moderation);

      (2) it may be considered better to release the marks to all students at the same time.

      Currently the only way of achieving this seems to be to hide the assignment altogether. But this prevents students from resubmitting where appropriate. It also means that teachers can't mark work that has been submitted early, before the deadline.

      Could we have a setting for each assignment that prevents marks and feedback being given to the student (through the assignment or through the gradebook)?

        I'd add to it that I'd like the ability to send an email to the students letting them know about feedback once I "un-hide" the feedback.

        It seems to me that if activity grading was overhauled so that all grading happened through the Gradebook interface (and therefore all grades were viewed through the Gradebook user report interface), this problem would be resolved by simply hiding the assignment within the gradebook, while leaving it visible on the actual Moodle page.

        Ideally, Moodle should develop a consistent grading interface for all activities, for clarity and ease of use.

        The solution to this is to hide the grades (and feedback) via the setting in the Gradebook. Click 'Grades' and then turn editing on. In the 'controls' row at the top, click the edit button for the assignment in question. Then you can either hide the grades altogether, or else set a release date for the grades. Once this is done, the assignment itself is still visible, but a student visiting it will not see any grades or feedback that have been given.

        Can I suggest additional date fields in the assignment set up to be "feedback release date" and "grade release date" which will be much more user friendly for staff setting up assignments, but feed the data into existing gradebook functions.
