The course setting "Show activity reports" should be changed to "Show activity reports to students"

      Description

      According to the course level setting "Show activity reports" help button, here is the explanation:

      "Activity reports are available for each participant that show their activity in the current course. As well as listings of their contributions, these reports include detailed access logs.

      Teachers always have access to these reports, using the button visible on each persons's profile page.

      Student access to their own reports is controlled by the teacher via a course setting. For some courses these reports can be a useful tool for a student to reflect on their involvement and appearance within the online environment, but for some courses this may not be necessary.

      Another reason for turning it off is that the report can place a bit of load on the server while being generated. For large or long classes it may be more efficient to keep it off."

      So based on this, the wording of the "Show activity reports" should be changed to "Show activity reports to students" (just like the setting right above it, which is "Show gradebook to students". I think this would make it more clear about what this option is really doing.

      This can be fixed very easily, just need to change the string of "showreports" in /lang/en_utf8/moodle.php from "Show activity reports" to "Show activity reports to students". What do people think? Just give me the word and I could commit this into core. Thanks!

        You can't just change a string in core stable! Translators won't know. Usually we have a new string.

        And what if the Moodle site doesn't use Student roles?

        I've reverted the checkout for now.

        Of note for next time, the changes would normally be merged into HEAD as well, and MOODLE_19_MERGED flag moved on that file.

        oops. Sorry about this. My bad. I thought that I got green light from Martin before for this type of minor changes. I will double check next time before I commit this type of changes in the future then. Sorry again.

        By the way I've also attached a screenshot. Currently the option of "Show gradebook to students" is still wording as "to students", while the "Show activity reports" (right below it) does not (although it's really meant showing "to students"). This is really confusing to instructors and that's why I changed that string to keep it consistent. Again I will double check next time.
