Expanding Tagging across more modules, especially Forum module

    Details

    • Database:
      MySQL
    • Difficulty:
      Difficult
    • Affected Branches:
      MOODLE_19_STABLE, MOODLE_20_STABLE, MOODLE_27_STABLE

      Description

      This is a feature request/suggestion

On my wish list is to have greater integration of tagging working across core modules and ability to search tags and get results across modules. It would be especially helpful if Forum posts could be tagged, at least by a moderator. Tagging on database entries and wiki pages would also be welcome.

Our company Knowledge in the Public Interest employs moodle for communities of practice for a variety of clients. The needs for tagging such as on delicious and diig are increasingly being asked for by members of our team who have task of extracting knowledge from the sites. Information about our company is available at http://kpublic.com

We currently have 5 moodle installations running and find it meets it a good 90% of our needs given it's remarkable suite of modules and administration interface. Thanks, Laren

Laren - Many thanks for your ideas. I would like to see the ability to use tags with forums, discussions, and posts as well. I think we need to sort out the difference between this type of functionality and how we would expect it to work versus an advanced search on the forum or a global search of a Moodle site. For example, I would like to see the ability to subscribe to tags so that anytime a forum was created, a discussion started, or a post that was tagged with a tag that I want to subscribe to that I would receive a notification (message or email). In an academic setting I could see this helpful to allow for interdisciplinary work. For example engineers working on a bridge design for a particular region could easily find out that another group of students is working on public policy or transportation issues in that region, etc. I think there are some fun possibilities here but they need to be well thought out. Peace - Anthony

Hello, is their any activity on making tagging possible for forum posts?
It would be really helpful for categorising participants input.

              Hello,

in one one the projects I work with,
a co-worker had implemented a way to add tags
              to all course modules.
They are only shown on the edit screen,
but people may develop code to use it elsewhere,
like returning it via webservices and so.
              Hope that you like:

Yes, this would be really helpful. I have got a pretty good peer-learning system going using Moodle forums, but it is difficult for students to search and find out which threads are relevant to their issue. Tags would be great, also a tag cloud.

Hi, this is my test branch on top of MDL-50851 - the callback is still incomplete, it does not check all permissions and does not display some info, but it's a good start for this issue:
https://github.com/marinaglancy/moodle/compare/master...wip-MDL-50851-test (see the last commit only)
