META: Improve usability of new files structure for Moodle 1.9 users who want "Course files" back

    Details

    • Affected Branches:
      MOODLE_20_STABLE
    • Rank:
      276

      Description

After observing people using the filepicker recently it's become clearer that people are not going to adjust to the new Files stuff very quickly. A lot of people are used to the old workflow in Moodle 1.9 and we need to make things easier to compete with that.

      See subtasks for ideas.

Still important work to do, just not blocking RC1 any more.

I think as the new Moodle 2.0 File Picker (FP) "tools" get broader exposure it would be good for development staff to review recent Moodle lounge thread ( http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=169791 ) with an open mind. There are very real issues (and solutions) pointed out here that are not "going away".

Two distinct existing sets of Moodle user groups are evident, one group compatible with FP 2.x "style" and one explicitly NOT satisfied with loss of 90% of its file management power tools.

Martin you are on public record as saying Moodle probably can't/won't be a real "file repository" so if the FP 2.x is stuck being what it is currently (I certainly HOPE not!!) then giving an explicit, simpler path/method to get real Moodle file repository (like Alfresco Comm. Ed.) running is something the Moodle community of experienced users deserves.

          Hi All,
if you want to test if a WebDAV access to the Moodle Virtual Filesystem could be useful, please give DAVRoot a try: I've originally coded that local plugin for debugging purposes and to learn more about the new Moodle Files API.

          Doh,

somehow this issue was closed incorrectly when processing all the integrated issues this week. (sort of most voted and current in integration filters mix). Apologies for the confusion, reseting to previous status!
