      Description

As I understand the current flow of the core Tex filter (http://cvs.moodle.org/moodle/filter/tex/latex.php?revision=1.12&view=markup) we convert to postscript and then to png. However, current versions of Tex (http://www.tug.org/texlive/doc/texlive-en/texlive-en.html) have contained the "new" dvipng binary for some time (dvipng has been available on its own since 2002). For Tex Live documentation see: http://www.tug.org/texlive/Contents/live/texmf/doc/dvipng/dvipng.html. Should the filter be tweaked to determine if dvipng is available, and to use same instead of convert and dvips? This would certainly make it easier as far as indicating how users can do new installs of Tex, since all components are included in the Tex Live distribution.
