      Description

At the moment, every user can set a Comments block on their profile and allow others to comment. This is independent of course enrolments.

I can see how many organisations, namely schools, would like to have the capability to turn this off/on. Just imagine kids spending chatting away on Comments pages and frustrated teachers monitoring & asking to stop the distractions ... For the record, I'm against such bans but the realities sometimes do call for OFF button.

Could we give Admin or Manager the ability to disable Comments block just on profile page sitewide, but keep it in courses where the block could indeed be very useful.

      Thanks

Raising this to critical... we need to be able to specify which blocks are allowed in profile pages in some way, I can imagina a bunch of blocks, like the "comments" one not being nice if available for everybody. Sending to STABLE backlog as far as we should be able to address this in 2.0.x IMO. Feel free to discuss it with MD.

          Ciao

We have detected that this issue has been inactive for over two years and also did not collect many votes. It is possible that it has been already implemented in a more recent version of Moodle, or it is not highly demanded. There are unlimited number of ways Moodle functinality can be expanded and improved but we would like to concentrate on the features that will benefit majority of users, and which can not be implemented as plugins. If you have a suggestion for improving Moodle core, and there is no open issue for it in the tracker, please start a new forum discussion to see how many other users agree with you, and then create a new issue providing as many details as possible.
