      Description

This is minor: is you are a user, you cannot find the Moodle build version. Even if it was in "View Source" on the home page it would be good.
(Of course if you are a system admin you can, I'm meaning an ordinary user)

This was removed for "security" reasons, but I personally think we should still show the Moodle version to all logged in users because it is trivial to find out the actual version of opensource projects - you simply look for newly added files. It is important to hide this info from search engines only to prevent searching for outdated sites...

Derek, thanks for your suggestion and Petr, thanks for your comment. Adding a fix version of DEV backlog for it to be considered for inclusion in a future version.

If this is implemented - I would suggest that it be a site option so that the site admin can determine whether to allow either guests or authenticated users to view the build information. Personally it seems a trivial issue as most of the time the users don't need or care about the build. Usually this is the site administrators concern so perhaps adding it to the environment page (admin/environment.php). Peace - Anthony

I thought I'd clarify the original scenario.
I took a workshop in Wellington last year for teachers representing a whole bunch of Moodles. Several teachers phoned up afterwards. I had several questions that the answer was version dependent and just caused delays.

Last week I had the same problem.

My request was just for teacher role, and maybe on their profile page a the bottom?

As I said, a trivial item.

            -Derek

We have detected that this issue has been inactive for over two years and also did not collect many votes. It is possible that it has been already implemented in a more recent version of Moodle, or it is not highly demanded. There are unlimited number of ways Moodle functinality can be expanded and improved but we would like to concentrate on the features that will benefit majority of users, and which can not be implemented as plugins. If you have a suggestion for improving Moodle core, and there is no open issue for it in the tracker, please start a new forum discussion to see how many other users agree with you, and then create a new issue providing as many details as possible.
