Students do not have access to files via server files

    Details

    • Affected Branches:
      MOODLE_20_STABLE

      Description

I'm not quite sure I have understood the concept of server files.

      My understanding:

      • I can go to a course and see all files I have access to in a course as student
      • I have access to all files I've added to the course directly as student
      • I have access to all files I've added to the course directly as teacher

      My findings:
Students don't see any file in a course.
Teacher sees files he has uploaded to a course

What is intentuion of the repositiory?
Is it working in this way correct?

            Hi Ralf

server files repository lists all files in moodle you have permission to view. We are planing to improve the file structure of the repo, and provide search functionality.

            Hello Dongsheng

then we have a failure. The function doesn't work for me.

            Moodle 2.1.1+ (Build: 20110803)
Admin adds a picture as file to a course and makes it visible for students
Student logs in, opens personal files and tries to search for files via server files, goes to the course and can't see the file( picture).
I checked the permission and found that authentificated user have, but students don't have repository/local:view permission per default. I gave the students this permission additionally but got same result.
            See attached screenshot.

            Hi Ralf,

I investigated a bit about this issue, it seems that in order to see the content the files that are part of modules, you need the permission to manage files (http://docs.moodle.org/25/en/Capabilities/moodle/course:managefiles). Though I don't think it is a good idea to give this permission to students.

I guess we should find a work around this capability requirement to allow for students to see the files they naturally have access to.
