      Description

We have a teacher who has created a quiz and doesn't want to score each question or get the overall grade in a numeric format. The teacher reads the essay question responses and decide if the assessment should be marked CA/NYC etc.

You may initially think, well 100/100 = CA, that's true, but has multiple issues. If the result is 78/100 then it gets complicated as to wether that equates to a CA or not. Individual responses would need to be assessed. Also the when the Student logs in and sees the grade 78/100, they aren't aware of what that means. Do they need to do more work etc, so by showing competency grading would match other assignments in Moodle.

While competency grading is available for document uploads, it should be available to the quiz as well.

This bug - actually it should have been a feature request - is really multiple requests in one (bad!) and I think they have all been made before:

            • Allow teacher to edit final quiz grade, rather than just question grade.
            • Allow the quiz grade to be an outcome, not a numerical grade.

As a work-around, you could just add a custom column to the gradebook, and hide the automatic quiz one. Then, you can fill in the grades you want in the gradebook while reviewing the quiz attempts. Of course, it would be a pain to have both the gradebook and the quiz open at the same time, unless you have a very big monitor.

By the way, I have no idea what you mean by "CA/NYC". When requesting things in Moodle, you should remember that most people only know the pet acronyms of the education system they grew up with, and therefore avoid such acronyms.

            Hi Tim,

In competency based grading, CA means Competency Achieved, NYC means Not Yet Competent.

I logged this as a bug, not a feature request, because Competency based grading is allowed in assignments like document uploads. So it seemed inconsistent to not have the same functionality in a quiz.

            Regards
