      Description

The grading settings in SCORM are confusing to users - attempts grading is an advanced param and isn't always shown and the grading method is often confused with the attempts grading.

at the moment the display of options is in this order: (* advanced options)
      Grading method
      Maximum grade
      -------------
      Number of attempts
      *Attempts grading
      Display attempt status
      *Force completed
      *Force new attempt
      *Lock after final attempt

I wonder if we could order these in a more logical manner or if just changing attempts grading to a standard field might help.

Hmmm, yes, I guess that I have found the hide advanced/show advanced thing a bit onerous, but mostly because I always select the Show Advanced button for something or other. I have noticed that we have been getting a few questions on the forum where people don't even know they have an option to control a setting, bc it's hidden on first page load. If I remember right these questions were mostly about the player dimensions and new window settings:
        Display package
        Width
        Height
        Options (Prevented by some browsers)

And (super-common issue) another guy didn't realize he could hide the TOC:
        Display course structure in player

These above settings are pretty basic visual presentation things (the non-super-users tend to be concerned with visual presentation first). It might make sense to have those not be hidden in the advanced settings.

I guess if I had my druthers I'd have grading method, maximum grade, and the visual presentation stuff always visible.
Attempts grading settings should probably have a specific overall label like "Attempts Behavior" or "Attemtps Settings" which distinguishes those from the general grading, if we keep it shown. The new attempts settings are really nice, and give us a lot more control. But in my mind attempts settings really could be below the visual presentation settings, because the average user really just cares about 1) grade 2) how the scorm content looks on the page.

Thanks Amy - I took a look at the way Quiz is doing it and it allows the admin to decide which items are advanced settings - so I'll copy that as well.

I'll group the settings into "Grade settings", "Display Settings" and "Attempt Settings" (in that order)

Grade settings will have the following set as normal by default- others as advanced. (configurable by admin)
        Grading method
        Maximum grade

Display settings will have the following set as normal by default - others as advanced: (configurable by admin)
        Display course structure in player
        Display package
        Hide navigation buttons

Attempts settings will have the following set as normal by default - others as advanced: (configurable by admin)
        Number of attempts
        Attempts grading
Display attempt status (set to Yes as default for new installs rather than existing "No")

        How does that sound?

FYI, just added one commit with +01 version bump into scorm's version.php to avoid a lot of notices happening if editing without upgrade. Not critical but...

        Ciao
