      1. We created a blank course and customized the settings. We also set which blocks to display and where, basic information about the course (ready for professor to customize), links to common resources, a gradebook with all university approved weight groups, etc...
      2. We took the shortname of the customized course and used it in "enrol_ldap | template" (http://yourmoodle/admin/settings.php?section=enrolsettingsldap).
      3. Sync enrollments.
      4. Check the new courses' settings
      5. Only "Course settings" (http://yourmoodle/course/edit.php?id=xxx) were taken from the template

    Description

The current LDAP template feature enables the system to auto-create courses with certain settings, like start date, visible, upload size etc. The current system does not recognize what blocks were set to display and where, or takes the prepopulated info, such us configurated pages that all courses must have.

If all Moodle courses in our environment have, as an example, a page (resource) with basic information about "how to Moodle", or a basic gradebook, etc., setting those in the template should count at the time of "auto-creation". By automatically populating each course with the common resources will save time and will make all courses standard (based on your institution template) from the first time faculty log-in to their newly created course. For courses taught semester after semester, backup and restore is the way to go, but create a course, make a backup and restore it to create each new blank course to get some stuff in the right place, it is not practical. If the template functionality in LDAP could do this, it will be a very powerful tool.
