      Description

cmi.launch_data can be set in imsmanifest.xml as part of the item element <adlcp:dataFromLMS> and is used to provide initialisation information to the Scorm object. It would be very useful to be able to edit this in the GUI, when adding a Scorm Activity.

This would allow the same zipped learning object to be launched to read in different configuration files (for example in a simulation using different case-studies) A large package could be uploaded once, and the activity cloned, to keep just one version of the files. If the cmi.launch_data was exposed in the GUI this value could be overwritten.
This works by deliberate intervention at the database level, but would be better implemented in the GUI as an exposed field.

        Hi Steve,

Thanks for the report - I can see how this might be useful for some people but I usually close this sort of thing as "won't fix"

it's not something I will spend any of my 'volunteer' time on - so unless you have funding to pay for the time to implement this or are willing to do the development yourself it's not going to happen sorry!

If it was implemented and you wanted it to go into Moodle core this sort of functionality would have to sit inside a separate "tool" - not just directly on the scorm settings page when editing/adding a SCORM to Moodle - as soon as we add functionality to modify one element there will be people asking us to allow modifying other elements.

If someone develops a tool that does this I'd be happy to take a look but I think it would probably have to be a contrib plugin as I wouldn't want to take over long-term maintenance of a tool like this unless I wrote it myself or someone managed to convince HQ to provide long-term maintenance for the tool.

I'm happy to leave this open if you're willing to fund the work (drop me a line and I can provide rates etc) but otherwise I'll be closing this as won't fix.

I hope that isn't too discouraging for you.

        thanks

closing as won't fix - this isn't something I plan to spend any time on - if someone funds the work or does some development towards a feature that does this I'd consider re-opening - thanks.
