      Description

      Copied from dev chat. Martin:

we need a solid set of help texts that a) describe briefly what the module is, secondly provide some quick examples (the Moodle tool guide can help) and thirdly link to the appropriate main page in docs (in the relevant current language)

      approx 170 words

Some little pedagogical tips/ideas in there would really make a huge difference to Moodle

Thanks a lot Andrew. (Hope I didn't break any law when marking this issue as closed rather than sending it for peer review!)

          Hi Helen--
I went through the help files and made a few revisions and additions. You'll also find a few related comments. I used track changes in Word so you can see exactly what I changed.

You can disregard punctuation changes per our discussion. I'm also guessing a few of the changes are specific to the US so do whatever you need to do there. If need be, I can pass some of those things on to Mark McCall to change in the US English language pack.

          Hope this helps.
          Michelle

          Hi Michelle,

Many thanks for reviewing the help texts. I've gone with nearly all of your suggested improvements (creating MDL-33675 for Andrew to implement the changes) apart from deciding to reduce the amount of text in a few places.

Regarding aggregating ratings, the sentence 'Ratings can be aggregated to form a final grade which is recorded in the gradebook.' is now included for database, forum and glossary, as they ALL have the same aggregate type setting with options No ratings, Average of ratings, Count of ratings, Maximum rating etc. Thus I didn't mention average specifically.

For forum, I kept 'Participants can subscribe to a forum to receive notifications of new forum posts. rather than going with your suggestion 'Participants can subscribe to a forum to receive new forum posts via email.' since depending upon a user's messaging preferences, they can receive popup notification rather than via email.

Regarding 'differentiated revision' as a lesson use, I think this is indeed a US/UK difference, so please do ask Mark to change it to remediation or enrichment in the en_us language pack.

Thanks again for reviewing the help texts. Your input is much appreciated.
