          Hi Ray,

Submission comments are disabled when blind marking is active - can you provide some more information about this bug?

          Thanks, Damyon

          Agreed.

I meant that the option to select comments should be disabled if blind marking is enabled on the module settings page.

I would disagree with the disabling of comments when blind marking is set to yes. The teacher should have the option to allow submission comments but make the display of user information match what it displays in the grading screen.

That is much harder to do Jason because the comments api is outside of the assignment module and has no knowledge of blind marking.

Since Moodlerooms is looking at updating the commenting system maybe anonymised comments should be added to support this feature. IMO submission comments, blind marking and group grading should be supported across all gradeable Moodle activities not just assignment. If this were to happen then support for anonymised comments would make sense.

Not allowing comments in an assignment hinders the communication with a student imo. Blind marking is intended for grading not to limit communication before the final submission of the activity.

Yes - from the dicussions I don't know if this will be a new comment system that sits alongside the existing comments or not (need to do more forum reading) but if the comments supported anonymous comments then we should switch to that.

The currently suggested changes to comments can be found as a specification at http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Comments_UI_Update. This would be an update to the existing API based on conversations with Martin and not a separate grading comment system.

If you can I would recommend discussing this the rest of the developers at a scrum what it might take to move blind marking and group grading into the grading area to allow any activity to implement the feature. This will become more relevant once I release the functional and technical specification for an inline activity grading feature that Moodlerooms has developed and would like to get back into core Moodle.

Hey Damyon - Sam actually managed to get anonymous comments working specifically when Blind Marking is used. I think it would make more sense to include that as a feature. Can we close this and submit the patch in a new improvement ticket?

This issue was assigned to me automatically, however I will not be able to work on this issue in the immediate future. In order to create a truer sense of the state of this issue and to allow other developers to have chance to become involved, I am removing myself as the assignee of this issue.

I'm escalating the priority on this - we should not treat blind marking as an exception to commenting as it is confusing. In addition, there is a solution which Moodlerooms has offered to the maintainer.
