Tag functionality for forums

      Site Administration > Advanced settings

      Tick "Enable tags functionality"

       

      Go to Site Administration > Appearance > Manage Tags

      Add one or more standard tags to the Default Collection

       

      Optional: in Forum settings, add a standard tag. Note: tagging of Forums is independent to tagging of Forum posts. One will work without the other.

       

      1. Add a new discussion topic
      2. Select one or more standard tags from the list or add your own tag
      3. View the discussion topic
      4. Click on tag which will take you to the Tag index page
      5. (If tag entered was in Forum settings – Forum activity will be listed)
      6. Tagged Forum posts will be listed.
      7. Links on the Tag index page will take you back to the tagged Forum posts.
      8. Hide the Forum activity
      9. View the Tag index page.
      • Admin can see the links to the activity and/or individual posts, but there no visual clue that it’s a hidden activity. This appears to be the case on all activity tagging and is therefore not classed as a bug in this code.
      • Student cannot see any reference to the activity or individual posts.

       

      Forum search

      Search for standard or user-generated tag

       

      If a student is NOT enrolled in a course...

      Links to Forum activity and individual posts do not display on Tag index page. Please note that due to another bug the cache may be up to 15 minutes delayed after enrolment/unenrolment, it is better to re-login as a student to test it.

       
      Backup and restore

      Back up the course that has forum(s) with tagged posts (including users). Restore as another course, make sure all tags were restored

      Based on current settings ($exclusivemode in the locallib.php of each module), there needs to be at least 6 tagged entries of any particular type before the index page displays a "Show all..." link.

    Description

      The ability to use a tag in a forum post. A particular role should be able to defined tags then those tags can be used in forum posts. Also tags should be clickable as a search a parameter for the forums to display similar tagged posts. Tags also be able to search tags in the forums.
